RUSSIA POWER 2010 TO BRING YOUNG TALENT TO POWER INDUSTRY

Russia Power, a leading professional event in the Russian energy sector, will continue its unique Youth Programme this year. The programme aims to bring young, skilful and enthusiastic talent to the Russian power industry and to raise awareness of career opportunities. The programme now features a new essay writing competition, the winner of which will be announced during a stylish awards ceremony to take place on 26 March, the third day of Russia Power.

Around 100 premier final year engineering and science students, postgraduates and young industry professionals have been selected to participate in an exclusive networking session with programme partners and leading power companies including Enel, ODK JSC (United Engine Corporation), EvroSibEnergo, Schneider Electric, System Operator of Russia and ABB Automation. The youth participants will also be able to attend the Russia Power conference and exhibition as complementary delegates for the third day of the event.

“The debut of the Youth Programme last year received very positive feedback from the industry and academic community and we are excited to continue the programme this year,” said Nigel Blackaby, Conference Chairman at PennWell. “We see this as an excellent opportunity to encourage skilled students and contribute to bringing fresh talent in to one of the leading sectors of the Russian economy.”

“This year we have received more than 500 applications from institutes across Russia from students interested in participating in the programme, and we have selected the best of the best,” said Olga Golyshenkova, Executive Director of the International Association for Corporate Education (MAKO).

A new feature, the essay writing competition, has been added to the youth programme this year to help identify the most brilliant students and graduates. A special ceremony to announce the winner of the writing contest in style will undoubtedly make this year’s Youth Programme even more compelling to our participants across Russia.

MAKO members, acting as patrons for this year’s Youth Programme, have reviewed student applications and submitted papers. These include RusHydro, Rosatom, InterRAO UES and Graduate School of Business Administration, Moscow State University. The resumes of the selected young people have been distributed to the sponsoring companies to enable them to choose the candidates they would most like to meet at Russia Power 2010.

Enel, EvroSibEnergo, Schneider Electric, System Operator of Russia, ODK JSC (United Engine Corporation) and ABB Automation are the key corporate sponsors of the 2010 Youth Programme.  This year, the programme is also supported by Russia’s Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (FAYA).

RUSSIA POWER-2010 ADDS NEW HYDROPOWER FOCUS TO MEET INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS

The Russia Power Conference and Exhibition, one of the key events in the Russian energy industry, already established for its unrivalled coverage of the gas, coal and nuclear power sectors, will feature a brand new additional element addressing hydropower this year. A special focus on hydroelectric power, dams and civil structures has been added to the conference programme, and the exhibition will boast a dedicated Hydro Pavilion.

Experts from 17 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and North America, as well as top specialists from Russian giants such as RusHydro and Power Machines will contribute to the exchange of know-how and share cutting-edge technologies, state-of-the-art practices and proven strategies for managing hydro assets.

“We are very excited about this new element to Russia Power’s agenda as we strive to meet the current requirements of the industry,” says Glenn Ensor, Events Director at PennWell. “A survey conducted last year found that a separate hydropower focus would be of particular interest to Russia Power participants and we look forward to satisfying this interest.”

“A separate focus on hydropower and associated civil structures is particularly relevant for Russia,” notes Marla Barnes, Conference Director for the hydropower segment. “Hydro accounts for 20 per cent of Russia’s power generation capacity and Russia is one of the world’s top hydropower producers, with a significant potential for further development.”

Russia Power will showcase exhibitors who offer a wide range of hydro- and dams-related products and services with a special Hydropower Pavilion on the exhibit floor.

NP Hydropower, Russia’s only professional association for hydropower, is an official partner of this new focus at Russia Power 2010.

The eighth annual Russia Power Conference and Exhibition is organized by PennWell Corporation and will be held in Moscow’s Expocentr on March 24-26, 2010.

Russia Power 2010 to Take Place in Moscow on March 24-26

The eighth annual Russia Power Conference and Exhibition, organized by PennWell Corporation, will be held in Moscow on March 24-26, 2010.

The three-day event will combine plenary sessions and an exhibition, a successful model that PennWell introduced to Russia eight years ago. The conference will bring together leading executives from Russia’s electric power industry. They will discuss the most urgent and relevant topics facing the sector in 2010, including the continued liberalization and modernization of the sector following the global financial and economic crisis.  Furthermore, the exhibition will highlight the most advanced technologies and services required to manage contemporary power systems.

“The economic turmoil can’t be an excuse for us to ignore the problem of the modernization of power infrastructure, said Glenn Ensor, Events Director at PennWell. “Therefore we believe that Russia Power successfully contributes to solving the issue by the expansion of knowledge, building relationships and securing new opportunities for sector participants.  Last year we saw record attendance at both conference sessions and exhibition, and this year we will enhance our efforts to continue to meet the highest expectations of all our exhibitors, sponsors and attendees”

Russia Power 2010 adds an entirely new track, devoted exclusively to hydroelectric power, dams and civil structures. Hydro and dam experts from 17 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and North America have been selected to share cutting-edge technologies, state-of-the-art practices and proven strategies for managing hydro assets.

Additionally, the student programme conducted at Russia Power in 2009 has been further developed with the launch of a Youth programme for 2010. Aimed at bringing engineering students and young industry professionals to the event and introducing them to technology and technology providers, Russia Power’s Youth programme seeks to foster the careers of Russia’s next generation of energy industry professionals.

The conference will consist of keynote, strategic, technical and special hydroelectric sessions, each offering a unique opportunity to look into the future of one of the most vital sectors of the economy.

The keynote session will be open to all participants. It is a central element of the Russia Power conference, during which high-profile speakers address the audience on behalf of energy producers, investors and suppliersInvitees for the keynote session include Sergey Shmatko, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Slobodin, Chairman of the Council of Power Producers and Strategic Investors, and Eugene Dod, Chairman, Rushydro.

The strategic sessions of the Russia Power 2010 conference will be devoted to attracting investment to the Russian electric power market under changed economic conditions. The speakers will be representing the key players in the industry.

During the technical sessions of the Russia Power 2010 conference, participants will discuss the use of energy technologies in the successful modernization and development of power production and distribution, as well as present the latest versions of steam and gas turbines, generators and electrical systems.
